A new lamp for our living room has been on my agenda for a long time. I love the Delta lamp we have, but it was just a bit too big for the spot, and having a white desk and white shelf AND a white lamp with a white shade was starting to blend together into a big blur. So I got in touch with one of my favorite affordable lighting sources, Lamps Plus, and ...

This post is actually coming to you a few weeks late! We hung this big old hunk of art just a few days after the gallery wall – but it is SO hard to photograph that I’ve been putting it off.
Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane…
After we moved the dresser to this wall (where the bed used to be), it housed the bedside lamps and for a while sported a way-too-small mirror. Our ...

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve shared any apartment updates, and quite a bit longer since I’ve shared any bedroom updates. There have been some changes though – I just need to do a little tidying and take some pictures of the new artwork we hung up.
We’ve been putting off a lot of purchases for this room, mostly because people don’t see it. But I’ve had plans brewing for a long time. Now that ...

I think the last time I shared pictures of our bathroom was right after we moved in, August 2011. The bathroom is the room I like to tackle first when I move – especially in a rental where we won’t be making any structural changes – by the end of move-in day, the shower curtain is up and accessories laid out. It makes for a spot that feels like “home” even with every other room ...

If you read my gallery wall post, you already caught a glimpse of our new living room rug (but here’s a refresher!).

We’ve had the rug for a few weeks and I wanted to make sure that I was still loving it before I shared too much info. We do still love it, so here are some other angles! It is the Olin rug from Crate and Barrel, in an 8×10 size (on sale right now!). ...

When we first moved into this apartment and I began mulling over our design and layout, I knew I wanted to put a gallery wall of art behind the desk and computer. Not only would it hold most of our small scale pieces, but it would take advantage of our high ceilings, balance out the dark and tall curtains directly opposite, and help our giant computer blend in and not be a sore thumb.
I started ...

Happy Monday, friends! Ryan has the day off for President’s Day, so I’m adopting his work schedule as my own and we’re spending some time together.
This weekend we made some awesome progress on the apartment. We hung our gallery wall yesterday. It took us about 4 hours (including figuring out the arrangement, above). Ryan did 99% of the stool-climbing and hammering. Major round of applause to him, because it was a lot of work! Especially ...

Other people have normal hobbies like golf or crocheting… I redecorating our apartment.
We finally got our new rug delivered over the weekend and in the midst of all the shuffling I thought to snap a few pictures just to convey how NOT perfect our apartment looks, particularly when I’m in my happiest state of decorating (aka seeing it all come together).

Just a little dose of reality! It ALWAYS gets worse before it gets better. Decorators ...

It took me about a week to complete, but I finished my DIY large painting and finally got it hung up to share with you!

If you remember, this is the painting I found in the basement.
It perfectly fit the dimensions I had determined for the spot above our sofa.
I gave it a coat of black acrylic paint to start fresh.
Then I started  adding color. I first did a splotch of blue and one of green, ...

Another update for our gallery wall has been switching out or making over some of the frames we’ve had for years. Almost all our artwork in the gallery wall will be from our old apartment, but almost everything will be in a different frame.
One way I wanted to spice up a few frames was with gold leaf. I’d heard it was pretty easy thanks to Jenny at Little Green Notebook tackling a frame last year ...
