I mentioned on twitter when we first moved in that we were surprised to realize that there were no drawers in our new kitchen. Not a single one. Perhaps I was too in love with the glass-front cabinets to look below the counter?
A few trips to Storables and Ikea and we’re back in the storage business. Here’s how we’re wrangling all that “small stuff” like silverware and measuring cups…
The silverware is stored in a silverware ...

I’ve been working on a lot of home offices for clients lately – maybe in part because in this tough economy, people are starting side businesses or creative ventures that help them escape from the tense corporate world. They’ve been a lot of fun, and I thought I’d share some of my tips for a functional and inspiring home office.
1. Declutter. This of course applies to any room, but an office space is notoriously bad ...

Our Dining Room Rehab is still kickin, and today I wanted to share a REALLY simple project that anyone could do at home with a free afternoon and no spare cash. I worked on it one evening when Ryan was out with the boys and it was a lot of fun. Gotta love big impact for minimal cost, right?
The corner of our dining room that has our two leaning bookshelves has pretty much been the ...

We’re much more productive around here lately because we made some necessary changes. Since expanding my little business to more edecorating clients and adding the shop, we were falling all over each other in the office. Especially with having to store inventory and shipping materials for the shop, we were simply running out of room.
Not anymore!
Here’s a quick refresher of how we were crammed in before:
Notice how all the furniture, even when tidied up, was ...

On the same trip to World Market as the shower curtain purchase, we also picked up this sweet little recipe box:
But we didn’t have recipes burning a hole in our pocket, waiting to be copied down letter by letter onto the little cards. Oh no, we were more drawn to the cute little pea/radish/onion motif for a more, er, organic reason…
Seed storage!
We had a few random packets still hanging around that didn’t get planted this ...

When I posted about our home office a few weeks ago, I was frustrated with clutter, an awkward layout, and organizational systems that weren’t working.
I’m happy to report that after a trip to IKEA and a few days of paper-sorting and hard where-to-put-this decisions, our office now looks like this:
We picked up an Expedit bookshelf from IKEA and some storage boxes to stash stuff in. My color printer/scanner/copier fits perfectly on top, and  thanks to ...

I haven’t made any official resolutions yet, but one might be to stay on top of housework better. Particularly dealing with clutter (or potential clutter) in an efficient manner.  Since the housewarming, our little home office has been the dumping ground for papers, holiday craft remnants, returns, gifts, books, and more. Plus, nothing has been put away properly.
Exhibit A: The sofa.
What is particularly sad about the shelving/couch area is that I have boxes for things ...

After hemming and hawing for several weeks about needing a desk for our guestroom/office, I finally broke down and bought one on Monday!   I’d had this fantasy about finding the perfect vintage desk at a flea market for $7 and taking it home and refurbishing it and being featured on design*sponge, but alas, after a full weekend of desk-hunting and not a thing to be found, I gave up. I know, I just don’t have the ...

Oh man, where did the time go yesterday? I fully intended to get an interiors post scheduled and my lunchtime just flew by and I never got to it! My apologies.
I’ve been pretty scatterbrained lately with the move, the bridal shower, the wedding, and regular stuff like work and my (pathetic) social life. Plus I’m always trying to dump my task lists onto little bits of paper that I have lying around, which means that ...

Some exciting news here from Casa Magchunk… it’s soon to be Casa Magchunk-and-Ryan. That’s right folks, sometime this October we’ll be moving in together. Which means a fun new space to decorate, new neighborhoods to explore, and of course a fun housewarming party to plan!
We’re still looking for a place (and plan to move that first week of October), I’m still planning Melissa’s bridal shower that will be at my apartment! Between the shower, bachelorette ...
