Look what was waiting on our porch when we got home last night!
Any guesses what it is for? I’ve been waiting anxiously for it to arrive for two weeks! And I LOVE it in person. Yay! Can’t wait to show you what I have planned!
P.S. This is just a portion of the yardage, not the whole thing.

Another post from the front-line of Dining Room Rehab! We added some storage that happens to also be decorative. Fancy that.
So my fantasy was to walk into a hole-in-the-wall thrift store and find an AMAZING china hutch/secretary/pie cupboard thing and snap it up for $30, paint it a snazzy color or line the back with wallpaper and then wow you with my skills. Well, I did some scouring, and I did some craigslist stalking, and ...

I knew you guys would want some instructions on how to make your own pretty bulletin board after I posted mine – it was SO easy and pretty inexpensive. And I love that it dresses up my wall while letting me swap out inspiration pictures, cards from Ryan, and other pretties.
Here’s how to get one all of your own:
Start with a plan old cork board with a frame. Mine was from Target in the back ...

Read an awesome story in the New York Times about the growing popularity of floral arranging, especially for young women.
I get my love of bouquets and flower arranging from my dad and his sisters – they all have a wonderful knack for it that I hope is hereditary!
I loved reading about the new “loose” technique of arrangements – the author likened these modern displays as the perfect undone-bun with a few wispy strands of hair. ...

The dark and dreary corner of our dining room is a holdover from my last apartment, where all the woods were dark and I was going for the “urban sophisticate” look. Well now that I’m more concerned with making my house a home and embracing the big window and the wonderful natural sunshine we get in the dining room, it’s time to lighten up – literally!
All the frames were purchased in black specifically to be ...

When Ryan and I moved in together 10 months ago (!) I started begging to refinish his dining room table. We agreed that it would be a summer project when it could be done outside.
Now that it is done, I can say that I am SO pleased with the result.
The before:
The after:
I know the effect is remarkably subtle, but in person it looks like 400% better. For one thing, the color is not as yellowy ...

One of the things I love about living in Seattle is its creativity. A great example of this is Assemble: part gallery, part workshop, part retail shop and part classroom, owned by Andie Wurster and Emily Grosse. The tiny shop has only been open about eight months, but they’re already getting media attention and bringing great artists to the Phinney Ridge neighborhood.
Today we’re lucky enough to have Andie share her Queen Anne condo (hey ...

My friend Laura just bought a new house! I was very honored that she asked me to help her inject some personality into their new bonus room. Since the new house is substantially larger than their first “starter home” they were already spending quite a bit on furniture. They already had the basic pieces for the bonus room – an L-shaped desk, pull-out sofa, tv cabinet, and bookcase. But they needed some accents and some ...

I’ve been loving the idea of a skirted console table lately. Think about it – beautiful fabric, clean lines, and gained hidden storage space. What’s not to love?
I’m thinking of trying to squeeze one under our gallery wall in the dining room to double as a buffet when we have guests over. And while we’re on a strict budget right now, I may be able to fit this project in sooner rather than later. One ...

I’ve seen a couple faux-wallpaper stencil walls around the blog world lately, so I thought I’d share the two that I’m loving now and the two that I loved oh-so-long-ago in 2009.
From design*sponge:
From Young House Love:
And my favorite oldies: From Modern Homebody / Kelly + Olive:
Mid-process
And Apartment #412:
Stenciling a pattern onto your walls can be a cheap alternative to wallpaper – and for those that rent, perhaps the only option if you’re looking for pattern ...
