Before we left our old apartment, I had plans to have it photographed. I had a pretty hefty list of things to update/finish before it was photo-ready, and once it became clear that most of them weren’t happening without spending a ton of money (and time), the whole idea got nixed. However, I’d already done one or two things that were free and fast, so I thought I’d share one!
I had a little 8×10 canvas that has gone through several “lives” as different paintings. I wasn’t crazy about the latest blue and white and green streaky look and it stood out more than I wanted.
So I took some painter’s tape, made a few criss-crosses, and painted the whole thing black.
I love that you still got a hit of the blue, but it didn’t overpower the other pieces nearby anymore.
I just used regular acrylic art paints… I did the texture bit on purpose, but I think if I do this again I’ll smooth it out instead. The bumps were kind of distracting.
I’d love to try this or something similar on weird flea market paintings too. Expose just the eyes of a portrait? Capture pretty flowers on a still life with everything else white? So many possibilities.
